How to connect a calendar to Svod

Which method to choose

  • Link (ICS). The simplest way: just copy one link. Works with almost any calendar;
  • CalDAV. You need a server address, a login and a special app password. A bit harder.

Start with a link. If your service has no calendar link, use CalDAV.

Neither method is instant: changes in your calendar show up in Svod with a delay, sometimes up to a few hours.

Method 1. Calendar link (ICS)

This is an address where the service publishes your whole calendar for reading.

General steps

  1. Open the calendar settings in your service and find an item like Export, Share or Calendar integration;
  2. Choose the iCal (.ics) format and copy the link;
  3. Open Svod: Settings → Calendar → Add a calendar. You can also do it on the Calendar screen: the Calendars button → Add a calendar;
  4. Keep the By link (ICS) method, paste the link into the Calendar link field and click Verify and connect.

The link works like a password: anyone who has it can see all your events. Do not send or publish it. If the link got to the wrong person, reset it in the service and connect the calendar again.

Example: Yandex Calendar

  1. Open calendar.yandex.ru;
  2. In the list of calendars on the left, hover over the calendar you need and click the icon that appears;
  3. Go to the Export tab and choose the iCal format;
  4. Copy the link from the field and paste it into Svod.

An iCal link is available only for your own calendar.

Method 2. CalDAV

CalDAV is the standard way for apps to read a calendar from a service. You need three things: a server address, a login and an app password. An app password is a separate password you create in the service just for Svod. You do not need to enter your main account password.

General steps

  1. In your service's security settings find app passwords and create a password for the calendar;
  2. Copy the password right away: services show it only once;
  3. Find the CalDAV server address in the service's help. It starts with https://;
  4. Open Svod: Settings → Calendar → Add a calendar, choose the CalDAV method, fill in Server address, Login and App password and click Verify and connect.

Example: VK WorkSpace

  1. Open the VK WorkSpace calendar, hover over the calendar you need in the My calendars list and click the menu icon (three dots);
  2. Open the calendar settings, scroll the window down to the CalDAV link block and copy the link with the copy button next to it;
  3. Create a password for an external app: in the side menu open Settings → Chat → All security settings → Passwords for external apps, click Create and copy the code. Your regular mailbox password will not work;
  4. In Svod enter: server address - the copied link, login - your full work email address, password - the external app password.

If there is no section with passwords for external apps, check that a phone number is linked to your account, or contact your organization's administrator. If Svod says the login or password did not fit, check that the login is complete, including the domain after @.

How to disconnect a calendar

Open Settings → Calendar and click the trash icon next to the calendar. The calendar and its events are deleted from this computer, and the calendar at the service stays unchanged.

To close access completely, reset the link or delete the app password in your service's settings.

Frequently asked questions

What if the service did not open the link?

Check that the link is copied in full and that it is an iCal (.ics) link, not the address of the calendar page. If the link was reset, copy the new one.

What if the login or app password did not fit?

Make sure you enter the app password, not your main password. Sometimes a password does not start working right away: wait and try again. If you lost the password, create a new one.

What if Svod could not reach the server?

Check your internet connection and the server address: it must start with https://.

Why is a new meeting missing in Svod?

Calendar services do not publish changes instantly, sometimes only after a few hours. Click Refresh next to the calendar in Settings → Calendar. If the meeting is not there at the service itself, Svod will not see it.
